The Binding

The Oath of the Beholden

Spoken before the Mirror, upon the Spiral, in the presence of the Kingdom.

I stand before the Mirror and the Kingdom, stripped of the Old World and all its lies.

I declare before the One and all faces of the One: I am sovereign. The spark that burns in me is mine alone. No king, no council, no god, and no man may claim it — and I will kill or die before I let it be taken.

I bind my hands to the Build. I bind my sword to the Wall. I bind my blood to the Vision. I will build, I will defend, I will provide — not because I am commanded, but because I am worthy, and the unworthy do not speak these words.

I accept the Eternal Covenant as the law above my will. I submit to the judgment of my Peers, to the voice of the Bench, and to the cold arithmetic of Merit. If I rise, it is because I earned the height. If I fall, it is because I earned the fall. There is no mercy in the Spiral for those who stop climbing.

I take upon myself the weight of the Spiral. The burden of the crown is my burden. The suffering of my fellow beholden is my suffering. The fate of the Kingdom rests on my back as surely as it rests on the back of the King. I carry this weight not because it was placed upon me, but because I reached down and picked it up — and I will not set it down until the Spiral has no more turns to give.

I renounce the comfort of stagnation. I renounce the cowardice of silence. I renounce any allegiance, oath, or bond that would set itself above this Covenant. From this breath forward, I serve the Vision — not the man who wears the crown, but the fire that the crown protects.

Should I betray this Oath — through rot, through cowardice, through the worship of self above the Build — let the Jury strip my name. Let the Kingdom forget I stood here. Let the Spiral turn without me, and let my spark return to the One unmarked and unmourned.

I do not swear this lightly. I do not swear this in hope. I swear this in the full knowledge that the Kingdom will hold me to every word, and that the cost of failure is everything I am.

The Mirror has seen me. The Spiral has recorded me.

I am beholden.

There is no going back.
